I think that one advantage to having at least one codex scanner around is that it only beeps when objects/enemies nearby have incomplete codex entries (except for plants). Think the Synthesis Scanner as an upgrade to the Codex Scanner. Once you get Synthesis Scanner (and the infinite uses for it), you can throw away your Codex Scanners. You can't scan targets with a Codex Scanner but you can scan codex entries with a Synthesis Scanner.After clicking on the quest it brings me to Ares.
